Belal Muhammad, a welterweight, accuses UFC of favouritism following Dana White’s decision to give Colby Covington the next shot at the title. Covington is yet to fight since his UFC 272 victory over Jorge Masvidal. He had only fought once since his Welterweight championship bout against Kamaru Uman in 2021. Belal believes that Covington has been treated with favoritism.
Belal Muhammad spoke about Dana White’s ridiculous preference for Colby Covington, despite the fact that he was more qualified on paper to compete in the title fight. He said: “I don’t think it’s because Dana White loves him or that the UFC is interested in Leon. Leon’s a not a big talker.” He is not a media guru, nor a trash-talker. He does very little media and they are aware that Colby may try to sell this fight better than him and it could give Leon a certain level of stardom.”
Belal tweeted, and then deleted it, that Covington was given the title because he’s White. He has now come up with other theories as to why Colby was given the title shot. Belal Muhammad is a great performer in the Octagon. He has nine fights unbeaten, including one against the current champion Leon Edwards.
Edwards poked Belal in the eyes during the second round. UFC has decided not to hold a rematch. Covington is currently facing Leon Edwards in the Welterweight championship match. According to reports, UFC has scheduled a fight between Gilbert Burns (main event) and Belal Mohammed (co-main event) for UFC 288.

Gilbert Burns, a former title challenger has called out Dustin Poirier and Belal Muhammad to be the co-main event of UFC 288. Last week, he called Dana White repeatedly with the intention of fighting on the upcoming PPV. Rumors suggested that Paulo Costa and Jan Blachowicz would fight at the same event, after Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush’s bout fell through. It appears that UFC has decided to replace Oliveira and Dariush with Belal Muhammad vs Gilbert Burns.
The welterweight fight could be used as a title eliminator for the Welterweight championship after Edwards vs Covington. Gilbert Burns had a heated social media exchange with Belal Muhammad. The bout is now official.
Burns will be fighting for the second fight in less than one month, after taking on Jorge Masvidal during UFC 289. Burns will try to outwork Belal in order to secure his next title shot.
