Recent reports indicate that Brock Lesnar should have bled during his match with Cody Rhodes. There was initially a lot debate on the internet about whether or not there had been an accident.
Backlash 2023 featured the first ever match between Cody Rhodes & Brock Lesnar. The two had been fighting for a month and security was called in multiple times during the month of Raw. The American Nightmare vs. The Beast Incarnate match was expected to be violent.
Brock Lesnar bled instantly after hitting an exposed turnbuckle in the main event. Lesnar’s bloody face was visible until the end of the match. He also wore a crimson-colored mask. Cody was also beaten by the former Universal Champion on multiple occasions during the match. Bleeding is generally not permitted in WWE matches these days, but a report hidden behind FIghtful’s paywall made it clear that Brock Lesnar’s bleeding was planned and not accidental.
Sean Ross Sapp, of Fightful Select, clarified: “The Cody Rhodes vs Brock Lesnar match was surrounded by a lot questions.” According to our sources, blood was planned in the match. WWE sources said that the match went as planned. Contrary to rumors Cody Rhodes wasn’t supposed to be squashed during Backlash .”
As expected, the match was violent and gruesome. The brawls began even before the match and continued during the match. The Beast repeatedly hit Cody Rhodes, causing him to be unable to recover. The American Nightmare did not give up.
Cody Rhodes eventually won the match by a surprise roll up. This feud may not be over yet, because a surprise roll-up is not the most appropriate way to end an epic feud between Brock Lesnar & Cody Rhodes. WWE will need big matches to promote Night of Champions in Jeddah on May 27th. A Cody-Brock match in Jeddah makes a lot of logical sense.
