Chris Paul to Leave Suns? Team to Part Ways with Future Hall of Famer

The future of the Phoenix Suns’ star point guard Chris Paul is in doubt, as NBA reports that the team will decide his fate soon. In 2020, the 38-year old was traded to the Western Conference and since then has led them to two Conference semifinals and an NBA Finals. The Suns have also been a key part of the franchise during this season, but they are worried about paying him an expensive salary, while keeping other stars such as Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and DeandreAyton.

Chris Paul will earn $15 million guaranteed on his contract, no matter what happens. CP would like to play alongside Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and the Suns. However, they will need to decide if they wish to keep the veteran point guard. There were reports that the Suns waived Chris Paul. Wojnarowski, and other sources confirmed the fact that the Suns and CP had not reached a decision on CP’s future.

In 2021, the 12-time All-Star signed a deal worth $120 million over four years. According to the contract, Chris Paul will take over $30 million each year in cap space for the next two seasons. Chris Paul’s decline is evident as he suffered from injury issues during the 2022-2023 season. If they want to keep him on their roster, the Suns will have to consider other players to waive.

What will happen to Chris Paul if Suns waive him off?

Chris Paul is considered to be one of the greatest point guards ever in NBA. He has earned the respect of both players and coaches for his elite court vision. Before Paul’s arrival, it had been ten years since the Suns made a successful playoff run. His leadership took the Suns to new heights, and they became a force in the league. Chris Paul, who has spent three seasons with the Suns and is likely to leave Phoenix in this offseason after a successful run.

Chris Paul, despite his age of 38, could still be a big draw for many teams. Many teams could benefit from his expertise in the backcourt. His elite passing is one of his greatest strengths. Shams Charania reported earlier that the LA Lakers are looking for a point guard in this offseason. Paul’s friendship with LeBron James may facilitate the move. The two could cause havoc if they were given the chance to play together.

The LA Clippers could be another team that is interested in Chris Paul. The franchise has Russell Westbrook but his return isn’t confirmed. If he leaves the team, they will need someone else to be their point guard. CP3 understands what it’s like to play in a big city such as LA, and could give them the leadership needed to go deep into the playoffs.

Chris Paul’s future with the Phoenix Suns is still uncertain. If they decide to release him, he could be a great asset to any team.
