In the past few seasons, Portland Trailblazers has been a team that had a lot of potential. They have not been able to achieve a successful campaign. The Blazers are yet to make a final game despite Damian Lillard being a great player on the court. It’s clear that someone of Lillard’s stature is going to be hurt by constant failure.
Damian Lillard is adamant about his desire to win the NBA Championship. He has also been a subject of numerous trade rumors. Many fans believe that, although the guard was adamant in the past about remaining in Portland, he’s now beginning to think of other options. Lillard talked about possible trade scenarios and “what ifs” on ShowTime ‘The Last Stand podcast.
What will it cost me to go there? What will it cost for the team to be a contender in order for me get there? How can I be sure that we will play in June if I make it there? ?” Damian Lillard asked, referring to the scenario of being traded to a team with a chance at winning a championship and all the questions that would arise.
“When Russ Westbrook went to the Lakers, everybody was saying ‘Lakers’. You know what I’m talking about?” he explained. He said: “I want an opportunity to compete in Portland… We have the assets to build a competitive team.” If we don’t succeed in doing that, then we will have to have a different conversation.
What could Damian Lillard possibly be traded for?
If Damian Lillard was to be traded, there are a number of possible landing zones. Lillard would join LeBron Jame and Anthony Davis with the Los Angeles Lakers. Lakers have a reputation for recruiting high-profile players. Lakers may be searching for a replacement guard after D’Angelo Russell signed a contract.
Lillard may then decide to join the Philadelphia 76ers or the New York Knicks. Both teams suffered a disappointing Conference Semifinals series. The Knicks are struggling to find Julius Randle in crucial matches. Meanwhile, the 76ers face a double dilemma. Doc Rivers is no longer the head coach of Philly. Damian Lillard could be the ideal replacement for James Harden who may leave the Houston Rockets .
Lillard continues to say that he wants to play with Portland. However, his decision to depart could be imminent. If the Blazers fail to refocus and show a competitive spirit in the upcoming season, this is especially true. The guard could be wearing a new uniform in this case.
