The Heat beat the Boston Celtics in the Conference Semifinals by a score of 128-126. Even though the Bucks’ last quarter was a disaster, Playoffs Jimmy did the job and Damian Lillard had the chance to recruit Giannis.
After the game, Damian Lillard tweeted a photo of himself and Giannis Antietokounmpo wearing a Blazers jersey. The basketball world was a bit shaken by this. If the Blazers were to land Giannis Antietokounmpo and Damian Lillard, they would have a lethal duo that could destroy the league. The road to landing him isn’t an easy one, as he too is loyal to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Giannis Antietokounmpo has a contract with the Bucks that will last at least two more seasons. He also has a 2025-26 player option which would bring him onto the market in 2026. He can also opt to trade him, since the Blazers are unlikely to put a superstar on the market. Even if all of this occurs, the Blazers will still not have any assets that can help them land Greek Freak to fulfill Damian Lillard’s wish.
Giannis is only likely to sign a deal if the other team offers a talent of a different generation as part of a package. The Blazers will only be able to pull off this deal if they can land Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson at the upcoming draft. They have top-five odds for the NBA Draft in 2023. The Bucks management is not to be blamed, as they are likely to reject any package that includes stars or talent. Giannis Antietokounmpo, who is considered by many to be the best player in the world today and who improves every season, has been a great addition to the Bucks’ roster.
Damian Lillard will likely not get his wish granted by the Blazers management. It’s possible that his dream of a team-up with Greek Freak will remain a fantasy for some time or even forever. Miracles can happen, and Blazers fans should pray for one.
