Daniil Medidev claims that the ball choice at the 2023 edition French Open will favour players like the favorite Carlos Alcaraz, and the World Number 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Russian claims that heavy balls were chosen to make it easier for the big-hitters in the field to dominate. He acknowledged that he struggled in the French Open due to the balls and conditions.
The World Number 2 claimed that the heavier ball was a benefit to players who have a good ‘wrist-game’. He said Alcaraz, and Tsitsipas were at an advantage because they made many powerful shots. Medvedev stated, “But yes, with the heavier balls, adjusting to the wind was difficult.” My opinion is that players with a good wrist game – like Carlos or Stefanos, to name a few – have an advantage when it comes to these balls. They can generate easy power. I do not.
Medvedev spoke of the strong winds in France and said that it was to blame for his shocking first-round loss. He was up against a Brazilian Thiago seyboth Wild who had a strong hitting style. Medvedev stated, “He was controlling nearly all of the points and I was suffering, especially in the side against wind.” It was hard and I lost .” because of that.
The winner of the 2021 US Open also said he was happy to finish the clay season. He admitted that he had hoped for a better result in France, but now has his sights set on Wimbledon in July. Medvedev, along with other Russians and Belarusians banned for the 2022 tournament, will return to the event.
Daniil Medvedev loses in the first round of the French Open.
Seyboth Wild defeated Medvedev 7-6(5), 6-6(6), 2-6, 6-3, and 6-4. The Russian was the favourite but immediately fell behind when his Brazilian opponent took the first set. Medvedev won the second and third sets by a narrow margin.
Seyboth Wild came back and won the third set with ease. Seyboth wild held his nerve in the last set, which was an exciting match. He made it to the second round. Eventually, he was knocked out of the tournament in the third round. The loss of Medvedev had serious repercussions on his ranking.
The Russian player is out of the running for World Number 1 and will lose his World Number 2 ranking. Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Medvedev are the favorites to take over that position.
