Mumbai Indians fans were shocked to see Suryakumar Yadav walk out instead of their captain Rohit Sharma. The MI captain also appeared to be nowhere near the MI dugout. The speculation that Rohit was injured and unable to play was further fueled. Suryakumar Yadav, the MI stand-in captain, was quick to clear up all the confusion.
Yadav confirmed that Sharma is suffering from a stomach virus and has therefore decided not to play in the game today. Ravi Shastri enquired about the MI captain. Yadav replied, “Rohit has a stomach virus.” The interesting thing is that Rohit was listed as one of four substitutes.
Rohit was not on the field, however, as MI chose to bowl first. Rohit missing a match after only playing three matches sparked a few reactions among the fans.
Arjun Tendulkar finally makes his Mumbai Indians debut!
Mumbai Indians had two debutants in their first playing XI – Arjun Tendedulkar and Duan Jänsen. Rohit Sharma wasn’t included. Rohit Sharma presented Arjun Tendulkar, who had been in the wings waiting for several years, with his debut cap before the match. Arjun, who was signed by MI during the IPL 2022 mega auction and was expected make his debut in 2018, was not a surprise. The team management, however, asked Arjun to wait. Sharma, however, had confirmed before the IPL 2023 began that Arjun might get a shot in this edition.
