India Spots Australia to Take No.1 Spot in Test Rankings Ahead of WTC Final

Team India beat Australia on Tuesday to claim the top spot in the Test Rankings. Rohit Sharma’s team has ended Australia’s 15-month reign as the world’s No.1 test team. India is the world’s top-ranked Test team with 121 points, while Australia comes in second with 116 points. England, South Africa and New Zealand are ranked third, fourth and fifth in Test Cricket.

The International Cricket Council (ICC), which dropped the results for the 2019-20 season, saw India overtake Australia. The rankings are based on all series played since May 2020. Series completed before May 2022 are weighted 50%, and series after that at 100%.

In the end, Australia’s wins in home series against Pakistan (2-0) and New Zealand (3-0) in 2019/20 no longer counted, while its 4-0 victory over England in 2021/22 has been halved. Australia’s rating dropped from 121 down to 116. India’s 2-0 loss to New Zealand in the 2019/20 season was not taken into consideration when calculating their ranking, so they gained two points, moving from 119 up to 121.

Fans began congratulating Rohit Sharma and Co. after India won the Test series and Rohit Sharma’s team was already No.1 for T20Is and no.3 for ODIs.

Major boost for WTC Final

The World Test Championship Final (WTC), which will take place at The Oval on 7th June, is just a month away. India has also had some injury concerns. KL Rahul, and Jaydev unadkat were both injured playing for their Indian Premier League franchise. Unadkat hurt his shoulder while Rahul injured his hamstring.
