Elena Rybakina vs Jelena Ostapenko: Preview

Elena Rybakina had a “grand” start to the year by reaching her second Grand Slam Final at the Australian Open. Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina was expected to win but lost out to Aryna’s’spectacular game’. Kazak’s victory in a straight set over Sabalenka at the Indian Wells Masters was her fourth career title. After two consecutive finals at the Miami Open, she finished her career as a runner-up. The World No. The World No. 6 suffered early defeats at the Barcelona Open and Madrid Open.

Rybakina, who won the Italian Open in the first round, has played ‘phenomenal tenis.’ She started the tour by beating Jasmine Paolini, 7-6, 6-1. The Kazak player, who had beaten Marketa Vondrousova 6-3, 6-3 in the third-round (after a walkover against Anna Kalinskaya) and walked over Anna Kalinskaya (4-3), set up a quarterfinal match with Iga Swaatek. The World No. 1 retired from the match as the match entered a decider. The World No. 1 retired due to an injury and Rybakina won the match in 2-6. 7-6 [7], 2-3.

Jelena’s Ostapenko, on the other hand had a ‘disappointing start’ to the year. The World No. The World No. 20 was eliminated early at both the Indian Wells Masters as well as the Miami Open. In her previous tournaments, she never made it past the round 16 of her competition. The Latvian was defeated by Ons Jabeur in the round of 16 at the Stuttgart Open. Liudmila Samanthanova’s defeat in round 32 of the Madrid Open upset her expectations. Former French Open winner Liudmila Samsonova has struggled to keep up her ‘consistency in performance’ on clay.

Ostapenko was able to beat Barbora Crejcikova and Sorana Kristea in the Rome Open’s first and second round, respectively. The 25-year old beat Daria Kasatkina (6-4, 6-6, 6-0) in the third round. Paula Badosa, who had won the first set of the quarterfinals in the quarterfinals match, fought back to earn her place in semi-finals. The match then went into a final. Ostapenko beat the Spaniard 6-2, 6-6, 6-3.

This will be the fourth time that both players have met since their first meeting at the Linz Open, in 2019. The Latvian is 2-1 in the match-winning battles with Rybakina. In their last encounter at the Australian Open the 23-year old defeated Ostapenko straight sets in the Quarterfinals.

Elena Rybakina vs Jelena Ostapenko: Prediction

When comparing the statistics, Ostapenko has the advantage on clay over the Wimbledon champion. The World No. The World No. 20 has been to two quarterfinals at Rome in 2018, and in 2021. She knows what the surface requires. She is a former Roland Garros winner with a dynamic game style.

Ostapenka’s performances have been inconsistent. Rybakina, on the other hand is expected to play her best tennis with her consistent style, especially behind the serve. The intriguing rivalry between the two will definitely make for a thrilling match tomorrow.

Prediction : Elena Rybakina wins the match in 3 sets.
