James Harden, 76ers Star to the Rockets and is Not Sure About Future

James Harden must make a major decision this summer. The Philadelphia 76ers’ guard has a player-option for next season. He is likely to decline it in order to become a a free agent. He is not certain where he will play next. Harden, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic, is “torn between staying with his Sixers team or returning to Houston Rockets, his former team.

Harden played eight seasons for the Rockets. He became one of NBA’s greatest scorers and players. He won three scoring awards, the MVP award, and led the Rockets into eight consecutive playoff appearances. He never made it to the NBA Finals in Houston, and requested a transfer last season.

Harden’s season with the Sixers was solid, with an average of 21 points, 10.7 assist, and 6.1 rebound per game. Harden helped the Sixers finish third in the Eastern Conference, and formed a dynamic pair with Joel Embiid. He struggled in the postseason and especially against the Miami Heat in the second round.

Harden stated that he was willing to accept less money in order to help the Sixers compete for a championship and improve their roster. He

Rockets hoping to bring back James Harden

Harden’s choice is still not finalized. He may still decide to return to the Rockets. They are eager for him to come back. The Rockets want a point guard with proven experience who can help lead their young core.

The Rockets are prepared in case Harden does not return to Houston. Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reports that the Rockets are interested in signing Fred VanVleet who has a player’s option with the Toronto Raptors for next season. VanVleet, an All-Star Guard who averaged 19,3 points and 7.4 assists per game in the last season. He has also won championships with the Raptors, including one in 2019.

VanVleet would be a great fit for the Rockets who are in need of a reliable point guard. He is a playmaker, and a scorer. He could also be a mentor to their young players such as Jalen Garuba, Alperen Sengun and Usman Garba. VanVleet is being linked with Houston as a backup option in case Harden does not return.

Harden’s freedom will be one the most fascinating stories of this offseason. Harden has two options: he can stay with the Sixers to compete for a championship or he can return to the Rockets to revive his legacy. It will be a major decision for both teams, and it could have a significant impact on the NBA landscape.
