Khabib Nurmagomedov was one of the best fighters ever to compete in the UFC. He retired in 2005 with a record of 29 wins, no losses. Fight fans question his victories over Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje. These fighters are viewed as lacking the ability to grapple with Khabib. In a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience MMA analysts Luke Thomas, Joe Rogan debunked such claims made by fans.
Joe Rogan, Thomas and Thomas discussed the Justin Gaethje vs. Joe Rogan fight in 2020. Thomas said: “From the second he kicked him, he initiated takedown. From that moment to the end is 22 seconds. You are unconscious after 22 seconds. We learned from Daniel Cormier later that he did not armbar his mother, but instead Triangled him for showing a mercy-filled nature.
Joe Rogan believes that Justin Gaethje has a high level of skill and Khabib easily dominated him. Rogan praised Gaethje’s masterful takedown of Tony Ferguson during their UFC 249 fight. He believes that Khabib Numagomedov beat Gaethje within two rounds, proving himself to be the best lightweight of all time.
Khabib retired after defeating Gaethje at UFC 254. Luke Thomas Rogan and Khabib felt that Khabib was merciful to his fighters in the octagon. Thomas claims that Khabib is MMA’s most dominant fighter.
Joe Rogan compares Khabib and Jon Jones
In MMA, the GOAT debate focuses on fighters such as Jon Jones and Khabib. Georges St-Pierre is also included, along with Anderson Silva and Demetrius. In recent years it has been more focused on Jon Jones, and Khabib. Joe Rogan’s take on this matter was interesting.
He said: ” Khabib was the greatest LW and possibly the greatest fighter ever. JJ had a more impressive resume but Khabib’s resume is better in terms of rounds won..he also went through a tougher division.”
Rogan believes that Jones is the GOAT because he defeated Ciryl Ganes at UFC 285 and won the UFC Heavyweight Title. Khabib’s decision to retire earlier than other legends is always going to be a factor in determining his status as the GOAT.
