The Los Angeles Lakers are entering a crucial offseason. The Lakers are weighing their options after losing in the Western Conference finals. The Lakers’ management will decide whether to keep the same team or rebuild it for the NBA season 2023-24. There have been rumors that LeBron… James is trying to get his former teammate Kyrie… Irving to move to the city purple and gold.
In the past, The Lakers struggled to find a point guard who was a textbook. It’s important to find a guard with proven scoring ability. They had tried pairing Anthony Davis with LeBron James and guards Patrick Beverley and Russell Westbrook earlier. Unfortunately, these trios did not produce any positive results. Many are curious about the impact and probability of this trade, given Irving’s rumored pursuit. Jovan buha from the Athletic gave his opinion on this.
This is a tough question, but I would go with a low percentage. It’s somewhere between 10 and 15 percent. Buha stated that it’s possible but many things have to happen in favor of the Lakers for them to get Irving. “Ideally, they would acquire him through a sign-and trade with Dallas. The Mavericks would have to be willing to trade him.
“Irving’s move to Los Angeles is still theoretical until he signs with Dallas or another club…But, as I reported in mid-March all indications are that Irving moving to Los Angeles will be nothing more than an impossible pipe dream.”
Will the Los Angeles Lakers seek another star trio?
Kyrie Irving could be the exception to the rule of star trios failing in the past. Los Angeles could be a great place for Kyrie Irving to land. Fans can expect an even more successful season. The chemistry that exists between LeBron James, Irving and the Cavaliers will be a major asset. They were both vital cogs for the Cleveland Cavaliers’ historic comeback during the 2016 NBA Finals.
Dallas Mavericks are another important factor. The Mavericks, despite their disappointing season have stated their desire to continue building around Luka Doncic and Irving. It is also unlikely that the Mavericks would agree to sign and trade D’Angelo Russell.
The Lakers would also have to consider their salary cap. Kyrie Irving’s salary would be a big chunk, and this could affect the cap space available for a larger roster. The Lakers want to take care of their young assets, Austin Reaves , Lonnie Walker III and Rui hachimura.
