The dispute between the PGA Tour & LIV Golf appears to be growing with every passing day. Since the creation of LIV golf, the world of golf is divided into two halves. The Saudi-backed league was founded in 2021 by Greg Norman. It has been criticized for its attempts to revolutionize golf.
Phil Mickelson has been a steadfast defender of the breakaway league in recent developments. Rory McIlroy has caught his attention. McIlroy has a history with Mickelson. He is one of golf’s most prolific names.
McIlroy, according to the golf veteran, would fit in well with the LIV League. He made this statement after McIlroy’s poor performance at the PGA Championship. He taunts the player, saying that he is in need of an off-season for him to find his groove. LIV’s lower event rates would make it a great fit.
McIlroy has been a vocal critic of the Saudi-funded tour, along with Tiger Woods. Mickelson made a vicious shot at his ex-teammate, knowing that he had a strong stance against the Saudi-funded Tour. Recently, he’s trended on Twitter for both his remarks about McIlroy and his spat with Brandel Chablee.
Mickelson stated later that McIlroy’s ” bad behaviour” may be the reason no team wants him to join their team. The veteran said, ” I don’t believe there is a team who wants him because they would have to deal all his bs.”
Rory McIlroy repeatedly refused to join the LIV league
Rory McIlroy is one of the most renowned golfers in history. The Northern Irishman is a multi-award winner, but has never worn the Masters Jacket. McIlroy, despite his failure to win the Masters jacket, has stuck by his word and ignored the LIV league’s advances on joining.
Mickelson and McIlroy are not friends. McIlroy is not shy to show his feelings towards Mickelson and the tour. McIlroy shouted “F*** you, Phil” to the cameras at a PGA Tour Netflix documentary “Full Swing”.
McIlroy will likely continue to play on the PGA Tour for the time being. Stranger things have happened. It is possible that McIlroy’s decision to switch to LIV will become the most talked about golf event. It would take a miracle to make that happen.
McIlroy mocked LIV players recently for not being able to make the Ryder Cup. He supported Brooks Koepka’s selection but said that other players on the Saudi-sponsored tour should not be permitted to play.
