Tennessee Titans traded up eight spots in the 2023 NFL Draft to select Kentucky QB Will Levis with the 33rd pick. The pick was not well received by many Titans fans, particularly since the team had just selected Louisville QB Malik Willis as the 33rd overall pick in the third round 2022 NFL Draft. Ryan Tannehill has a similar opinion.
Former Pro Bowl QB Ryan Tannehill spoke to the media on Tuesday and said that the experience of training camp for this year is similar to the one last year. Tannehill stated that the training camp this year feels similar to last year’s experience.
Malik Wallis was drafted by the Titans in the third round 2022 draft. He competed with Tannehill to be the starter QB. It didn’t turn out as head coach Mike Vrabel had hoped, since Willis was never able to earn the starting QB position. In this year’s draft, they traded up to get a new quarterback.
Willis and Levis had both been projected to be among the top 10 picks prior to the draft. They both fell out of the top 10 picks on draft day. The Titans now have three quarterbacks on their team. Will Levis begins his NFL with the Tennessee football team as the third-string quarterback in the depth charts.
Ryan Tannehill was not happy with Malik Willis either
Ryan Tannehill was not happy either with the Tennessee Titans front-office selecting a quarterback for the 2022 draft. The Titans traded up in 2022 to select Malik Willis with the 86th pick.
Tannehill told Willis that they were competing with each other last year. We’re both watching the same video and doing the same drills. It’s not my job to be his mentor, but I think he’ll learn a lot from me. .”
Willis played in three games last year and threw three interceptions. He also failed to score a touchdown. Tannehill is not happy to see another quarterback in the locker-room, but he’s now attending OTAs. He is focused on what he can do.
“My goal is to prepare to win football games and I will do that every day, “Tannehill said.
Ryan Tannehill is leaving Tennessee. In the 12 games that he played, he had 2536 yards passing and 12 touchdowns. Willis’ experiment for the Titans didn’t go well, so the new addition Will Levis stands a good chance of becoming the Titans’ full-time starting quarterback before the end 2023 season.
