The WWE Universe knows the show as Friday Night SmackDown. It was previously broadcast on USA Network on Tuesdays. SmackDown moved to Friday night after FOX acquired the broadcasting rights. Nick Khan hinted recently that SmackDown may lose its Friday slot due to issues with television rights next year.
Next year, the media rights agreement with USA and FOX will come to an end. The WWE-UFC merge is also progressing. WWE CEO Nick Khan took a number of questions at the MoffetNathanson Conference. He talked about the TV rights of SmackDown, and said that WWE has not yet negotiated a deal with FOX.
During a press conference held by Fox, they did not mention WWE as part of their TV schedule for 2024. There have been rumors that SmackDown is looking for a broadcasting partner. Nick Khan said that WWE was willing to move SmackDown from Friday. This gives all networks the chance to benefit from the media broadcast agreement.
WWE CEO has revealed that Amazon, Netflix and others are interested in a possible deal. SmackDown may part ways with FOX in the next year. The Blue Brand would lose its catchphrase ‘Friday Night SmackDown,’ which fans have heard for years.
WWE SmackDown debuted in 1999, on UPN and aired on Thursday nights. In September 2005, it moved to Friday nights. In 2015, the concept of Thursday nights was brought back before being moved to Tuesday nights in 2016 The Blue Brand will be back on Fridays again in 2019 thanks to their recent deal with FOX.
