Steve Smith, the star Australian batter is in England playing for Sussex County Championship in advance of the eagerly-anticipated World Test Championship Final. The top two teams of the WTC cycle 2021-23 will face off at The Oval on 7-11 June.
Smith has been playing for Sussex in England, where he is spending quality time with his family before this highly anticipated match. Smith is in top form while playing in the slips. He’s also working on his batting. Sussex’s fielder’s incredible grab against Leicestershire was a testament to this.
Smith made a spectacular one-handed grab in the slips while he was fielding. The batter was trying to drive the ball full when the ball flew over the edge. Smith, at second slip, jumped to his right, and plucked the inch-high ball. Smith’s contact with the ball was a complete aerial maneuver.
Australia is ready. Is India?
The Indian players are not as well prepared for the WTC Final as Steve Smith. Except for Cheteshwar, who is playing in England with Sussex, the majority of Indian WTC players are involved in the Indian Premier League. A few players are also injured or in rehabilitation.
KL Rahul is already out, while Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Ydav are still to be declared fit. It will be fascinating to see how India performs at The Oval.
