In Real Madrid’s recent La Liga defeat to Girona a record 75 years old was matched. Valentin Castellanos scored four goals against the Spanish Giants. The Estadio Montilivi praised the performance. Los Blancos desperately needed a win to keep their title. A loss to the Blanquivermells, however, leaves them 11 points behind the leaders after having played one more game.
Castellanos is a 1998-born Argentinean. The 24-year old began his career in Chile before moving on loan to Montevideo City Torque. Castellanos was a key player in the club’s 2017 Segunda Division championship before being relegated to the lower division the following year. Castellanos was loaned out to New York City FC before being signed permanently in 2019.
Castellanos became a star in the United States when he scored the first goal of the 2021 MLS Cup. New York won the match and the Argentine won his first domestic cup. Castellanos, who was initially loaned out to Girona for the start of this season, has already made history there. The Girona-loanee is the first La Liga poker scorer against Los Blancos in La Liga since 1947. Esteban Echavarria scored five goals for Real Oviedo, the last player who had four goals against Real Madrid.
Girona will be encouraged to keep their new fan favorite. Castellanos scored 11 goals in 29 matches for the Spanish club during this season. New York FC, however, would not want to sell its star player for a low price. They would likely demand a fair price for the forward. The Argentinean’s discipline is a problem for both clubs. Castellanos already has 10 yellow cards this season for the Gironistes.

Castellanos’ first professional honor and the 2021 MLS Cup
Valentin Castellanos’ poker game against Real Madrid may be his most significant achievement in the beautiful sport. The Argentine had his proudest moment as a sportsman in 2021. Girona’s newest star was on target when New York City FC claimed the first ever MLS Cup in their history.
Castellanos was instrumental in helping the team reach the Final. The Argentine scored 19 goals in his 32 appearances with the New York club, and he also scored twice during the playoffs. Castellanos’ most notable achievement was to score the first goal of the MLS Cup.
Castellanos scored a goal from a free-kick in the 41st minutes to give his team the lead. The Argentine converted his penalty in the final. The former New York City player would also win MLS Golden Boot in that season.
The Argentine has a promising future. Castellanos had been wanted by English giants Manchester City in 2022 but the move never happened. The 2021 MLS Cup champion has performed well for Girona and could end up staying permanently at the Spanish club.
