The rumors of Tom Brady not retiring have been gaining momentum. Troy Aikman has fueled the flames by stating that Brady could suit up for Las Vegas Raiders as early as 2023. Former NFL star Troy Aikman believes, if reports are true, that Brady could replace Jimmy Garoppolo as Garoppolo’s future with the Raiders is in doubt.
ESPN reported that Garoppolo suffered a foot injury in 2022 while playing for Raiders and has not fully recovered from it. The 31-year old underwent surgery in March after signing a three-year contract. The Raiders added a waiver to his contract due to the sudden injury. The Raiders, based in Las Vegas, have the right to release Garoppolo from his contract if he does not recover from the injury in the off-season.
Aikman told TMZ Sports that he would ” not rule out anything ” and wouldn’t be surprised if Brady played for the team he owns. He believes that the positive relationship between Brady, Raiders’ coach John McDaniels and the former Patriots player may encourage Brady to return.
Aikman also noted that Garoppolo had a huge contract with the Raiders, and that Brady was ” finished playing.” But the NFL Hall of Famer made it clear ” that you never know “ the future.
Does Troy Aikman really believe that Tom Brady will sign with the Raiders?
Tom Brady announced retirement in 2022, and returned to play for the New England Patriots. The 45-year old quarterback filed his retirement papers in 2023 with the NFLPA and the NFL.
Brady grabbed headlines once again when he struck a agreement with Mark Davies and became a minority shareholder in the Las Vegas Raiders. The deal has yet to be made official, as it requires approval from 24 NFL owner. Brady won’t be able play for another NFL team if this deal is finalized.
The deal is more likely to fall through because other owners wouldn’t want Brady playing while also owning a piece of the Raiders. Only time will tell if Tom Brady does indeed come out of retirement to become a Raiders’ player as Aikman claims. The regular season is rapidly approaching, so time is running out.
