In the 27th match in IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore took on Punjab Kings. Faf du Plessis – the Bengaluru franchise’s captain – was expected to be present for the toss along with PBKS skipper Sam Curran. However, this did not happen. Virat Kohli was the one to do the toss. It was a surprise to everyone, as Kohli had renounced his captaincy by 2021.
Kohli didn’t waste any time in revealing the reasons behind the change of captaincy. Faf du Plessis, the stand-in RCB captain, said he would not be playing against PBKS because he injured his rib in a match against Chennai Super Kings. Du Plessis, who will be the Impact Player for the match against PBKS, will instead bat.
Kohli said during the coin toss that Faf could not be on the field today. He would then be playing an impact player and switching with Vyshak. The fans were not able to keep calm when they saw Kohli wearing the captain’s cap, even if only for a single match.
